The 2025 rookie class have wrapped up mini-camps and started the grind of pro football. These players represent the elite few who’ve climbed from high school to college and finally to the NFL. Now, it’s all about watching who will become “Legends” and who might fade into obscurity.
Meanwhile, the 2026 draft class is kicking off what could be their final college season. Spring practices and games are happening alongside the pros’ preseason, giving scouts and fans an early look at the next wave of talent.
Quarterbacks lead the early buzz, with Penn State’s Drew Allar and LSU’s Garrett Nussmeier standing out for their arm talent and poise. Behind them, skill positions feel thin. Nick Singleton, Allar’s Penn State teammate, is the early rushing leader, but the running back depth doesn’t match last year’s promising crop. Wide receiver and tight end prospects are similarly light.
On defense, the edge rusher role is evolving. The top 2026 prospects include powerful 5-tech defensive ends using bull rushes to disrupt the pocket, and speedy outside rushers relying on agility. LSU’s Harold Perkins Jr., Florida’s Tyreak Sapp, and Texas Tech’s David Bailey are already making noise, threatening quarterbacks while staking their claim for the draft.
As for the trenches, both offensive and defensive linemen remain underrepresented in early rankings—few make the top 25 or even top 50. Their time to shine will come as the season unfolds and evaluators take notice.
